ABOUT ON-SITE LEGAL ASSISTANCE
Beginning in January, 2011, Monroe County Legal Assistance Center (MCLAC), a part of Legal Assistance of Western New York (LAWNY), will provide on-site, free-of charge legal assistance as a component of our seamless, one-stop supportive services for veterans and their families.
Throughout its 11 year history, VOC’s Resource Center has encountered numerous veterans in need of legal assistance without the financial means to access professional services. MCLAC has a 30 year history of offering free legal assistance to eligible clients in Monroe and area counties. This important linkage with the VOC will help veterans access the justice system with legal assistance and advice to veterans with legal problems in such areas as housing, public benefits, employment benefits and rights, seniors’ civil legal services and help with nutrition outreach and education. Not all legal areas may be addressed or represented by MCLAC representatives, but efforts will be made when possible to refer veterans to other forms of legal aid to help with issues outside MCLAC’s authorized services.
MCLAC services will be provided starting on Thursday, January 20th, 2011 and will be available on a bi-weekly basis on Thursday afternoons from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Veterans or their family members in need of legal assistance may schedule an appointment by calling Lisa McManus, Program Specialist, at (585) 546-4250 or by requesting an appointment below via the “Request an Appointment” button. Veterans are requested to bring their DD214 or VA benefits card if available.
