The Resource Center, opened in 1999 at
457 South Avenue, offers programs and
services designed to help veterans reenter the work force. Veterans receive
career counseling, skills assessment, resume assistance, job readiness
and occupational skills training, career development and placement services,
focus groups to address employment problems, weekly job networking meetings and on-site employer recruitment activities, and access to a job information library.
The Resource Center also administers two projects funded by the U.S.Department of Labor. The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program outreaches to homeless veterans in the Rochester five county area and works to stabilize these vets for reintegration into the community's workforce. The Veterans Workforce Investment Program offers training and employment opportunities for recently discharged, campaign or combat era vets, disabled veterans, and vets with serious barriers to employment.
SERVED YOUR COUNTRY?
NOW SERVE THE PLANET!
Green Initiative for Veterans' Employment (G.I.V.E.)
is an employment retraining project created to encourage local industries to adapt environmentally friendly and sustainable practices while providing training and gainful employment to military veterans in rewarding occupational specialties.
Veterans Outreach Center and Monroe BOCES 2 Center for Workforce Development (CWD) have joined forces to recruit, train, and put veterans to work in two rapidly growing local Green Technology industries: HVAC and Building Maintenance.
The Center for Workforce Development has adapted its 605-hour HVAC and Building Maintenance Technology Programs to include the latest Green Technology standards, practices and methodologies. A hands-on, two-week apprenticeship is included. Nationally recognized certifications will be awarded upon training completion; employment placement assistance will be provided through VOC.
CWD training is VA approved for funding, and qualified candidates can use their new GI bill benefits, the NYS Veterans Tuition Assistance Program, or additional sources.
Training opportunities for qualified military veterans in Green Technology Industries:
- Building Maintenance Technology and HVAC
- Nationally recognized certification upon completion
- Two-week apprenticeship included
- Employment placement assistance available through Veterans Outreach Center
