Employment Resources and Services
With over 37,000 unemployed veterans in New York State, our comprehensive employment and training programs are in high demand. Last year alone we had over 3280 visits to our Employment Resource Center, where clients received vocational counseling and skill assessments, occupational skills training, resume preparation and job search assistance. Our professional team of Employment Specialists articulate the value of hiring veterans: strong work ethics, exceptional training, and proven leadership skills. On average 70-75% of enrolled clients were placed in meaningful employment and 86% of all placements remained employed at the 270-day post placement date.
The Center completed its 15th successful Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) year in June 2011 by again exceeding its program requirements. As a result, the Center has been selected to be national recognized and published in the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans publication Best Practice Profiles of Employment Assistance Programs funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Our Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP) Green Initiative for Veterans Employment (GIVE), a collaborative project with BOCES Center for Workforce Development, ended 2011 by placing almost half of program participants in “green” jobs, exceeding program goals by 29%. This success received national attention with an official visit in September by the White House Council on Environmental Quality, seeking an up-close view of a green program best practice model.
